Studio Policies
Private Lessons:
Private individual lessons are provided on a weekly basis with lesson times of 30, 45 or 60 minutes at St. Peter Lutheran Church. The physical location is 900 Dreher Island Road, Chapin, 29036.
Lessons are conducted each week on a specific day and time that is reserved for the student at the start of the session.
Piano lessons will be taught on a grand piano. The student should practice on an acoustic (real) piano as much as possible.
If you have an electric piano, you may start taking lessons. However, an upgrade to an acoustic piano is expected. I will be happy to help you find a suitable piano.
Participation Expectations for Parents:
As exciting as it can be for a child to start a new activity, please be aware that they will face challenges and perhaps some frustrations at times.
If the initial excitement fades, your encouragement and praise will be essential to your child’s success.
Set aside a scheduled practice time for your child. Practicing should be a part of his or her daily routine. Please supervise home practice sessions, making sure your child completes each assignment.
Practice should be done away from distractions such as televisions, tablets, siblings, pets, etc.
Parents are required to sit in on lessons for children under 18.
Practice:
Daily practice for at least five days of the week is expected. Length of practice will vary based on the student’s level. Discipline of daily practice is required for progress.
Parents are expected to be actively involved in enforcing good practice habits with beginners and young children until they are responsible enough to do this themselves.
Cancellations:
Makeups are not given for student cancellations unless a time becomes available during regular teaching hours. Tuition is not adjusted for student missed lessons.
Makeup lessons are only given in the following circumstances:
-
Snow days
-
Emergencies
-
Teacher cancellation
Lesson Commitment:
Students are expected to commit to the full year of piano study, September through April. If you need to discontinue lessons for any reason, please give 30 days notice.
Dismissal of Student:
Sadly, I will have to discontinue lessons if a student has an uncooperative attitude, persistently misses lessons, refuses to practice or fails to pay tuition on time. Other causes include but are not limited to, any violation of this studio policy.
Payment Plans:
The session tuition is based on 12 teaching weeks in each session.
Two payment plans are available:
-
One payment in full due at first lesson.
-
4 monthly payments due on the first lesson of each month.
Tuition Policies:
Payments may be made by cash or check.
Tuition is not reduced for student absences of any kind.
A late fee of $10 may be added to the next bill for payments received later than the first lesson of the month.
Those who are often late with payments may be dismissed from the studio.
Materials & Performance Fee:
The parents will be responsible for all fees for the following:
-
Cost of music books
-
Cost of registration for recitals, festivals, and other performances
-
Other materials (pencils, assignment book, metronome, etc.)
Please feel free to contact me if you need to miss a lesson, have questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress.
