Alan W. Avant

Alan is the music director at St. Peter Lutheran in Chapin, SC. Along with this, Alan is on the piano faculty at Winthrop University, composition faculty at USC-A, and a board member of South Carolina Music Teachers Association (SCMTA) where he serves as chair of composition commissioning.
 

Alan has been teaching piano and composition for the past ten years in the Rock Hill and Charlotte area, and his students have won competitions, had
successful music school auditions, earned scholarships, gained self-confidence and learned the value of hard work.

 

As a composer, Alan has done private commissions for solo instruments, choir, small ensembles, and orchestra. He has also arranged and orchestrated numerous works for holiday church services and commemoration ceremonies, and has attended masterclasses throughout the US and Europe.   

 

As a pianist, Alan has performed recitals in the US and Europe,  premiered new works for piano, attended masterclasses with world-renown pianists such as Marc-André Hamelin and Walter Hautzig, and has been a church pianist/organist for many years. 

Alan is excited to being working with students in the Chapin area.

Xinyi "Sherry" Avant

Sherry is a PhD candidate and Instructor of Latin at University of South Carolina. She is native speaker of Mandarin Chinese and has also achieved near-native level of proficiency in English. She also teaches Ancient Greek, Latin, and topics in Classics and Ancient Civilizations. She has studied both Ancient Greek and Latin for over 8 years and taught Latin and Classical Mythology for over four years at University of South Carolina and Texas Tech University. Sherry offers tutoring in Ancient Greek, Latin, and Mandarin Chinese, and other relevant topics in world literature and civilizations.
